Hey everyone,
I’m Karen and I found Born to Be Alive by entering a competition on Facebook and never thought I would have been picked as a winner.
I accepted the invitation to go along to some free classes and was very nervous, not because I am nervous about exercise, but nervous about meeting other people and not fitting in.
People say I am a confident individual who is very chatty, but underneath all that show, I am a very anxious, nervous person, who talks and talks to avoid silences because I feel I will not fit in and I won’t be liked. Daft I know; but, at Born to Be Alive this was never the case. Everyone has their own unique individual personalities and some like to share and some like to keep it to themselves, but no one ever judges you.
I don’t know where I would be at the moment if I was not part of the team at Born to Be Alive. I love sports, so at my age (58), this has been the best fit for keeping fit and active, socially mixing with others and just my whole mental health and wellbeing and positive outlook on life. I want to live longer and see my 2 kids grown up and settled and happy, so for me I think by keeping myself fit and healthy will give me a better quality of life.
I have met so many genuinely lovely people, some who I have formed such nice friendships with. When I say some, I really mean all of them. They are such kind, caring, unjudging people, who genuinely care about each other so much. If you have a problem, share it and they will all rally round to help you. If you are sad, they will notice and make you smile. If you are ill they will send you genuine caring messages to get better. If you have been missing from classes for a while, they will all check in on you and if you just want to be left alone that is fine too. I’ve been with Born to Be Alive for over 5 years now and - Oh and I forgot to say we love to party too!!
