The jaw and the pelvis are powerful mirrors.
Tension held in one often echoes in the other.
Why? Because they’re deeply connected.
🧬 Embryonic origins
The jaw and the pelvic bowl develop from the same early tissues.
Two tiny openings form — one becomes the mouth, the other becomes the reproductive organs.
They share the same blueprint.
🧠 Stress patterns
Both the jaw and pelvic floor tighten when the nervous system is overwhelmed.
A clenched jaw, a gripping pelvic floor — both are classic fight-or-flight responses.
🦴 The dural tube connection
A protective sheath runs from the skull all the way down to the sacrum.
Tension in the jaw can travel along this pathway and influence the pelvic floor.
🌬 Fascia links everything
A deep front line of fascia connects the jaw, tongue, diaphragm and pelvic floor.
If fascia becomes tight, restricted, or dehydrated, the whole line feels it.
🌿 Energetic + emotional mirrors
The jaw often holds:
• unspoken words
• swallowed truths
• unmet boundaries
The pelvis often holds:
• repressed emotions
• violated boundaries
• stored fear or shame
• suppressed pleasure
Both hold what hasn’t been expressed.
Signs your jaw + pelvis are speaking the same language:
• Jaw tension / TMJ
• Teeth grinding
• Pelvic floor tightness
• Pain or discomfort during intimacy
• Digestive issues
• Shallow breathing
• Hormonal imbalance
• Struggling to express emotions
• Release tears during jaw or hip work
(Always check in with a GP if anything feels concerning.)
So how do we soften the pattern?
• Long, slow exhales
• Humming (beautiful for the Throat Chakra + vagus nerve)
• Gentle TMJ massage
• Myofascial release (feet included!)
• Speaking a truth aloud — even softly
• Relaxed tongue posture
• Jaw circles or exaggerated sighs
• Lying in butterfly pose and visualising the pelvic floor melting on every exhale
💛 When we soften the jaw, the pelvis often listens.
